About Us:
Meetings
Fukuoka JALT usually holds meetings on Saturday evenings in Fukuoka city, often in Tenjin. Our meetings are often followed by an informal social dinner at a nearby restaurant or bar. Everyone is welcome to join our after-meeting socials, whether they came to the meeting or not, and whether they're JALT members or not.

We have
Officers
We hold an election for our core group of officers each year before the annual JALT conference, so it's usually in October or November. Any Fukuoka JALT chapter member is welcome to run for any of these five offices, regardless of whether or not the current officer plans on stepping down or not. If you wish to run for office, please let us know around September or October so we can plan the election. If a position is contested at the annual AGM, we will hold the election online.
JALT is the Japan Association for Language Teaching, a membership-based NPO that promotes excellence in language learning, teaching, and research by providing opportunities for those involved in language education to meet, share, and collaborate. JALT's main activities are:
- Publications: JALT publishes six issues of The Language Teacher and two issues of The JALT Journal each year.
- An Annual Conference: JALT's Annual International Conference on Language Teaching and Learning is held each fall, usually in November, and it attracts about 1,550 attendees each year. The conference features 600 presentations and workshops as well as four to six plenary sessions, plus an Educational Materials Exhibition.
- Chapters throughout Japan: JALT has 32 local or regional chapters from Hokkaido to Okinawa. JALT members can choose to join whichever chapter they want, though most people join the one whose events are held somewhere convenient for them. JALT chapters hold five to ten events each year. We (Fukuoka JALT) are a chapter of JALT. We hold our events in Tenjin, Fukuoka City.
- Special Interest Groups (SIGs): JALT members can choose one of JALT's nearly 30 SIGs as part of their regular membership fee. (Each additional SIG costs 2,000 yen to join.) Our SIGs are made up of JALT members who share a professional interest. JALT SIGs publish books, journals, newsletters and maintain informative mailing lists. SIGs also hold conferences and seminars.
